This was a reprint of the same article appearing in the Western Literary
Messenger, of Buffalo, New York, on July 13, 1842. In neither instance was the
author listed. The Mormon article, published at Nauvoo, Illinois, was found and
preserved by N. P. Langford, Superintendent of Yellowstone Park. In the fall of
1900, Olin D. Wheeler, an eager student of Yellowstone Park history, through an
unnamed informant, found the source of the Wasp article to be the Western
Literary Messenger.
